Have you ever seen that, “this message has been deleted,” sentence in one of your Whatsapp conversations? It probably really got you thinking about what was in that deleted message that caused that person to delete it. And of course you didn’t want to ask them so you let it go.

WhatsApp, the popular Facebook-owned messaging app, introduced this delete feature a few years ago because users had requested it. The feature allows you to delete messages from one-to-one chats as well as group chats.

For anyone that’s ever been curious about what a deleted message on Whatsapp had said, you’ll be happy to know that you can find out. Up next we’re going to tell you how exactly you can view messages that have been deleted.

Overview of This Feature

WhatsApp, one of the most commonly used instant messaging applications, recently rolled out a feature called “Delete for All.” But are unsent and deleted messages really getting out of the phone? A recent study claims that deleted WhatsApp messages can easily be found and read.

Spanish Android blog Android Jefe claims the deleted messages are present in the device’s notification log. That means the recipient can quickly access the deleted messages regardless of whether they have been removed from the end of the sender.

We’re gathered different tips for you and proved that these top two hacks can definitely help you.

Read Unsent & Deleted Messages Using WhatsApp Chat Backup

If you accidentally deleted a message that you want to restore, you can do so by default with the aid of WhatsApp Chat backup that takes place every night at 2:00 AM.

You can switch backup frequencies to daily, weekly, or monthly. However, it is advised to select daily as the chosen backup frequency, as you can restore chats at 2:00 AM before the next backup takes place.

Pursue the following steps to restore deleted WhatsApp chats.

  • If you are using an Android device, uninstall WhatsApp and install it from the Google Play Store again.
  • Agree to the Terms and Conditions, and in the next section, enter your mobile number and the country code.
  • You will be given an option to restore the chats from a backup. Click the restore option, and restore your WhatsApp chats.

Use Third-Party Apps

You may use third-party software to read deleted WhatsApp messages. Google Play Store has many applications available that allow you to recover WhatsApp messages after you or the sender has removed them.

These apps keep a log of your notifications stored in the Android system’s Notification Register. However, you need to understand that giving a third-party app access to your smartphone’s information involves a significant security risk.

Also, these apps have certain limitations, as you can only recover the deleted messages that you have interacted with. Interaction here means swiping the notification bar or the floating message.

Also, the notification log will be cleared from the Android system once you have restarted your smartphone, making it impossible to retrieve messages even when third party apps are being used.

Notification History App

A third-party app called Notification History, which can be downloaded from Google Play, may also help you read deleted messages in WhatsApp.

Users will then have to search the message in the Android notification log after downloading the app. It’s even easier for those users that use third-party launchers like Nova Launcher.

The update log is accessible without the need for an additional program. Press the home screen for a longer time, then tap Widgets > Activities > Settings > Notification log. Then, you can view the update log for the device.

On Android, the notification log can also be accessed through a Settings widget.
